Bacterial Vaginosis Causes
Bacterial Vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacteria in the vagina. These two types of bacteria are known as Lactobacilli and Anaerobes. Lactobacilli are commonly referred to as "good bacteria" and Anaerobes as "bad bacteria". There is a ratio of these two types of bacteria in the vagina which is considered normal. When this balance is upset, it can cause Bacterial Vaginosis.
Lactobacilli naturally occurs in the vagina and acts as a natural disinfectant. This helps maintain the natural vaginal flora, or ratio of naturally occurring bacteria. Lactibacilli is similar to hydrogen peroxide, and there are home remedies for bacterial vaginosis you can use to help restore normal bacteria levels.
Doctors don't have much scientific proof of exactly what causes Bacterial Vaginosis, other than the imbalance of normal bacteria. Studies have shown that you can put yourself at risk of getting BV by:
- Having multiple sex partners
- Cigarette Smoking
- Poor nutrition
- Douching
- Using an IUD
- Bad personal hygiene
Bacterial Vaginosis causes are not fully understood in the medical world. Also, exactly how sexual intercourse affects your likelihood of getting BV is not clear. Any woman, even those who are not sexually active or have never had sex can develop Bacterial Vaginosis. If you think you may have BV, go to your doctor and get tested. Left untreated, BV can increase your susceptibility to HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
